The path to Silli village!

About 5 km away from Prasinada lays another village called Silli. Silli is an abandoned village nowdays with only one permanent resident.

These two villages were connected through an old path that goes inside the forest. A forest full of beech trees, streams of cool water and many surprises as you walk by. It is very common to meet with deers, roes, foxes, martens etc into this forest. But the elderly people used to say, that once men used to hunt the deers and roes, a woman's shadow made its appearence in front of them preventing them from hurting the animals. Maybe it's godness Artemis living here, in this astonishing place. Who knows?

The old path to the river

Prasinada is located between Rodopi mountains, on 750m altitude. Actually, it is hidden by forests and rivers.

There is a very old path through the forest, that connects the village with its river. Walking down that path, we will meet the ruins of the old school, where our grandparents used to go until 1950s. Nowdays, the only thing there is to discover there,  is some pieces of the old stone walls and your vivid imagination to recreate in your mind how big this school used to be.

While you keep going,on your left hand you will meet an ancient Byzantine drinking fountain. There you can observe how it was made of stones, and how they used roof tiles backwards in order to make a pipe for the water.

All along the path you shall meet cornellian cherry trees, several herbs, wild oregαnο etc. Imagine that through this narrow path people used to carry their fresh vegetables every day from their farms by the river, to their houses in the village.

When you finally get to the road by the river, if you walk some meters on your right, you will be able to find your way down to the river where you shall see the old watermill. This watermill used to work until late 60's. Women were bringing their corns here in order to make corn flour. Then with the help of their horses they carried the precious flour to their homes.

But there was a time during the second world war when this land was invaded by Bulgarians, that people here were very poor because the enemy didn't allow them to keep food. So women then kept secretely as much corn as they could, and during the night they went down the path to the watermill and made their corn flour.

There is a story that says during that difficult nights some glowing fairytales made their appearence in order to enlight the narrow path for those people! Well, if someone dares to walk that path late in the night he may meet them!
